Grasshopper asked: As we spend more and more internally and abroad, and ended up as China being our “banker”. What do you feel is a viable solution?
Because realistically speaking, if we don’t raise taxes our federal deficit will continue to climb, and if we don’t cut spending, our debt will continue to climb.

I have two sons. One in Kindergarten, the youngest in Pre-K. I just heard, the school district is planning on closing one of the elementary schools. My question: i
Is this situation happening because of the new elected pres. Obama’s(Education spending cuts). Or is this simply a ripple affect from the “Absentee Father ” era of the Bushes.

JJ asked:
How do you keep yourself from spending money when you are trying to save? It’s not that I can’t keep any money, I’m just looking for new ideas to spend less money, nothing more than the basics. I don’t carry cash, only cards.
I have a debit card and a credit card. I use the debit card mostly, but I’m trying to build up my credit since I’m only 20.

You win $800. You have a choice of spending the money now or putting it away for a year in a bank certificate of deposit earning 5.9% interest. Again, What is the opportunity cost of spending the $800 now compared to what you would have in one year?

Jennie Clause asked:
I’m planning a vacation to St Thomas. How much spending money should I budget for each day. I don’t plan on dining out expensively often, maybe once or twice, the rest will be like grocery shopping or fast food. I would like to do one or two activities like parasailing or snorkeling. Other than that it would be just money for alcoholic drinks and souvieners. How much money should I plan on bringing with me?

Only Trying to Help asked:
I am planning a vacation for 4 and it will most likely be a 5 or 7 day cruise. I have never been on a cruise and have heard that there are all sorts of “hidden” charges that come up. I want to know, in addition to paying for the cruise, what is not included, + how much spending money do I need for land excursions, etc.? It is myself, my husband, 10 & 5 year old daughters. Any info would be helpful. Thanks. Do you need anxiety treatment.
