good books which explain economics?

i am a 17 guy trying to gain more of an understanding and knowledge of economics, and issues within the economy such as unemployment, GDP, inflation, deflation, quantative easing, bonds, collateralised debt oligations, how and why the recession happened, etc

Can you tell me some really good books which explain these to someone who, although knows something of economics, is not familiar with alot of it
also, I know this site consists of alot of users from the USA, so if you are one, could you tell me books which are also publised in the uk, as i am from there

Check out www.mises.org. It’s the website for the Austrian school of economics. You’ll find plenty of pdf’s there that describe how and why things are happening the way they are.

While the Austrian school is only one of several schools of economic thought, it is the only school that not only saw this economic collapse coming, but can explain why it happened.

The best part is that you can download the books, many for free anywhere in the world.

Whats better, a tax and spend liberal or a no tax and spend conservative?

http://zfacts.com/p/318.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt

Since Reagan/Bush took over in 1981, the national deficit has increased when Republicans held the White House. Wouldn’t you rather have a leader who doesn’t just put everything “on the card”. We as citizens have to have money coming in to pay the bills, why shouldn’t the government?

Net interest on the U.S. national debt was approximately $240 billion in fiscal years 2007 and 2008. This represented approximately 9.5% of government receipts. Interest was the fourth largest single disbursement category, after defense, Social Security, and Medicare. Wouldn’t paying off the debt free up on that money for tax cuts, health care, infrastructure?

A balanced budget…!

The Debt-Deflation Theory of Great Depressions

The Debt-Deflation Theory of Great Depressions

The credit crunch today is not destroying capital but recognising that capital was destroyed by misallocation in the years of irrational exuberance. If that is so, then we are entering a spiral of debt deflation that will play out slowly for years to come. To understand how that works, we turn to Professor Irving Fisher of Yale (1933)….

In Debt, Innovations, and Deflation, the authors analyze the deflation theories of Thorstein Veblen, Irving Fisher, Joseph A. Schumpeter, and Hyman Minsky. In so doing, they develop a paradigm for understanding the phenomenon of deflation. They explain how technological, organizational, and financial innovations, combined with developments related to the creation and use of debt, give rise to co…

Credit Debt In America

If foreigner incurs debt and leaves America what happens once he tries to re-enter the country in 7 mths?

I know someone did college in the US and could not find a job after graduation. He was living off his credit card but had to leave the country after money ran out. He got a job response in the US and wants to come back but doesn’t know if his previous debt will be a problem. (i think it’s been about 6-8 months since he left). Anyone an expert in this? Help please.

The debt will be still there waiting for him. It will have increased for all the missed interest payments and fines.
It’s not going to bother the government, but if they use a debt collecting agency it will eventually catch up with him and bother him. Tell him to start saving money to be able to pay it off as soon as possible. Credit card debt is about the most stupid debt to have, the interest rates can become outrageous.

When did people in America lose the will to live free?

Seriously, work a job you hate in order to buy crap you dont need. You can get a job you enjoy, that pays less, but at least you are happy.
Break yourself financially and socially in order to support a spouse or kids that you dont need to survive. Seriously, I laugh at the guys at my job that work 70 hours a week so their spouse just sits at home and spends all of it and then complains, “Why cant you make the money your brother makes?” TALK ABOUT HUMAN LEECHES!!! Go into massive debt in order to buy a house you dont need….outside of building equity (good luck with that in today’s world) there is no difference between a home and an apartment (a roof is a roof). I can keep going on….

When did people in America lose the will to live free?

Ha ha. I can see that “Fight Club” really moved you.

I don’t think anyone has consciously lost the will to live free, it’s just that the idea of living free is a lot different that what it takes to survive in America in this day and age. If you look at the world as we Americans know it, it’s all based on the economy, economic status, etc. Everything is about money. It’s unfortunate. It’s unfortunate that we are forced to choose between doing something we love and paying our bills and providing for our families… But, that’s just the way it is now.

Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Statistics

looking for bankruptcy filing statistics for San Diego, CA (chapter 7′s and chapter 13′s)?

Would like to know how many Chapter 7 cases and how many Chapter 13 cases have been filed at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, San Diego, CA, from 1/2006 to 9/2006

You can start by contacting the court. I’ve posted the link below. Bankruptcy filings are down 70%-80% in San Diego County since the reform laws went into effect. I don’t have current statistic, but there were less that 1800 total bankruptcies filed in San Diego by the middle of July.
